How to Visit an Inmate at the Ventura County Jail

At the Ventura County main jail, pre-trial inmates are housed in a variety of locations with specific visitation restrictions. You'll want to call (805) 933-8501 before visiting to determine where the inmate is being housed. As you can see in the table below, each housing location has a specific visiting time each day, and not all inmates can accept visitors on a given day.

When visiting an inmate, remember:

  • At the main Ventura jail, visitors are accepted on first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Visiting pre-trial inmates is only permitted Wednesday through Sunday (restrictions may apply).
  • Inmates are frequently moved, so always call (805) 933-8501 prior to your visit.
  • Inmates get two 30-minute visits per week
  • Minors must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian
  • Inmates are restricted to two visitors at a time

What Is & Isn’t Allowed When Visiting the Jail?

The Ventura County Jail has very specific restrictions for anyone attempting to visit an inmate. Every visitor will be subject to a search of their person and property, among a number of other conditions:

  1. People who have been booked at the jail must wait one calendar year before visiting inmates
  2. No food, beverages, or smoking will be permitted in the visiting area
  3. No sandals, see-through clothing, or provocative clothing may be worn
  4. No backpacks, wallets, purses, diaper bags or similar are permitted
  5. No cameras, cell phones, books, magazines, or similar are allowed
